Sunday

Chilling, sleeping, wearing sunglasses inside just because we can.

This was the day of the arrival we had looked so much forward to, but my God, when was the last time we were so incredibly tired? The trip to London was more than twelve hours of living hell starting at 00:50 am. We had to wait for hours in the airport before we could even check in so we could wait for another couple of hours again. On top of that the flight was delayed for about an hour; tough stuff and not very motivating.
When we finally arrived at the hostel and got checked in, we found that the rooms were so small that there was barely space for our luggage! It was hard then to believe that this would be the amazing trip it turned out to be. After the first meal for many hours, we could relax a bit before those of us who are studying music had to go see a two and a half hour long classical concert; not very tempting at that moment.
We walked and walked, and suddenly it was there; Royal Albert Hall. The magic started.

Lightened up in the dark, the great circular building looked so beautiful with its unique architecture and with dressed up people surrounding it and oh yes, it got even better! Inside it was definitely one of the most amazing buildings I have ever visited. Because of the circular form, you had a great view to the scene almost no matter where you were sitting.

As you can see in the picture the color red is essential, and the great pipe organ is amazing to look at, but that is not all; we were to experience the London Philharmonic Orchestra, possibly the greatest classical musicians you will find in London. We have made a short review of that concert:

The concert consisted of a collection of great famous classical pieces written by artists such as Mozart and Tchaikovsky. The show was quite modern with indoors fireworks, canon fire from real cannons, smoke machines and laser light show. The conductor was using overwhelming phrases and making jokes continuously, and the audience laughed and made applause.
The mood was quite different from what could be expected from a classical concert. As Danes we are not used to the audience singing along and fluttering with flags at a classical concert. Furthermore i felt that the laser show and fireworks did not quite fit the music. It was actually kind of distracting even though it sure was an experience I for my part will never forget.
Aside from the show the musicians were just fantastic; just as skillful as one could expect. All of them played perfectly precise and yet with so much contempt, and don’t even get me started on the opera singers! And the choir really sent shivers down my spine, especially during Mozart's Lacrimosa which was performed both powerfully and fragilely at the same time. There were enough excellent guest musicians on the stage to satisfy most classical hearts. We almost forgot how tired we were.
Although the show may have been a bit distracting, the music was the same, and you can say that the show just made the concert more entertaining for some people and in that way attracted a larger audience which is a good thing. It definitely was an experience, and I think it is one that we will remember always.
